When navigating profound loss, writing an obituary that memorializes your loved one is not top of mind. And many newspapers that once printed free, article-length obituaries no longer do so. So families who wish to publish something are left to file costly death notices, which are, by nature, bare bones, and do little, if anything to showcase the deceased’s life story. I’ve written hundreds of full-length, 500-word obituaries for the Orlando Sentinel newspaper, and I am passionate about capturing who my subjects were, what lit them up, how they impacted their families, friends, and larger communities.
I now work directly with clients to craft keepsake obituary essays and funeral programs that celebrate their loved ones.
LEARN MOREWhether you’re tinkering with your LinkedIn profile biography, or submitting an essay in a Call for Entry, when the pressure’s on, it can be challenging to share your story and summarize your skill set effectively.
You’d rather focus on your work, not writing about your work.
I am passionate about bridging that gap, so you can keep doing what you love. I conduct layered interviews with clients, so that I thoroughly understand your goals, your story, your character. Then I craft essays, biographies, or custom pieces that highlight your strengths and support you in getting the recognition you deserve.

So the writing is done, and you are almost ready to hit send, submit, publish. I love working with individuals and businesses in this stage, whether the client is a local magazine or a graphic novelist. My approach is simple: I develop a deep understanding of the author’s creative intention, and then I provide feedback and tools so that these goals are met.
I have a passion for detail, a background in journalism and teaching, and a robust understanding of The Associated Press Stylebook and The Chicago Manual of Style—a combination that equips me to notice the “small stuff,” offer fresh perspective, and take your essay, story collection, article, biography, emails—etc., etc.—to that next level. LEARN MOREIt lights me up when I share the practices that have changed my life—writing, breathwork, and meditation—and I’ve been fortunate enough to do so in university classrooms and senior living facilities. What my work has taught me is this: regardless of age, background, ability, or prior experience, these tools empower people to discover, own, and share their voices and stories.
My courses establish the fundamentals of craft and creative confidence, and are completely customized to meet each client’s needs and desires. I have designed and facilitated poetry workshops, a Form & Technique of Fiction class, and a creative writing blend that integrates all genres. I would love to design a class for you.
